On December 4th, the launch ceremony of the PEACE Singapore Segment of the Intercontinental Submarine Cable Project was held at the International Ocean Terminal in Changshu, Jiangsu. Zhou Qindi, Secretary of the Changshu Municipal Party Committee, and Cui Genliang, Chairman of Hengtong Group, attended and witnessed the launch ceremony.
At the terminal, accompanied by a clear ship whistle, the international ocean-laying vessel set sail, heading for the open sea. This effort aims to establish a communication bridge connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa, contributing tirelessly to global maritime and digital economic development.
Cui Genliang stated that as the global ocean economy enters a high-growth period, Hengtong Group, after over a decade of development, has formed a high-tech maritime industry cluster encompassing ocean communication, energy, equipment, and engineering. The launch of the PEACE Singapore Segment signifies a new milestone for the PEACE international cable project, enhancing the overall competitiveness of the company's marine communication sector. Hengtong will continue to integrate into the new development pattern of dual circulation, focusing on both domestic and international markets, accelerating a new round of marine industry development.
Chen Guodong, Member of the Changshu Municipal Committee Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee, and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the Changshu Economic and Technological Development Zone, stated that as global energy transition and maritime economic development thrive, the scale of global submarine cable construction proliferates. Seizing the industry trend, Hengtong Group has laid early foundations in the maritime blue industry, leading the industry while promoting the rapid development of the marine industry. Changshu will consistently prioritize serving enterprises, actively solving their difficulties, continually innovating to optimize the business environment, and providing robust support for corporate development. Together, they will ensure the international marine industry's stable and far-reaching development, supporting the economic development of the Economic and Technological Development Zone and the entire city.
According to related reports, the Pakistan and East Africa Connecting Europe (PEACE) plan, abbreviated as PEACE, is a high-speed submarine cable project spanning 7500 miles (approximately 12,000 kilometers). The project commenced construction in 2018, led by Hengtong Group. In March 2020, Hengtong Optic-Electric announced the completion of the transfer of 51% equity of Huawei Marine, a subsidiary of Huawei. Consequently, Huawei Marine became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hengtong Optic-Electric, and Huawei's investment became a shareholder in Hengtong Optic-Electric.
The PEACE international cable will transmit data between China, Africa, and Europe, with vast transmission capacity and minimal latency. The cable's main nodes in Europe are in Cyprus, Malta, and France, while in Africa, they're in Egypt, Djibouti, and Kenya. Once operational, communication between Europe, Asia, and Africa will be more efficient and convenient.
As a leading provider of global submarine optical communication solutions, Hengtong Marine will continuously strive to lead the development of ocean communication through core technological breakthroughs and scientific innovations. Their goal is to better meet the demands of the digital era for ultra-large transmission capacity and high system flexibility in transoceanic communication systems. The company will continue to deliver professional end-to-end services and uphold high standards of project management to ensure the smooth construction and delivery of projects like the PEACE Singapore Segment.
