LG Chem is embarking on the construction of a cathode material factory in the United States, which will become a global production base for the battery materials market. The plan is to produce cathode materials most suitable for North American electric vehicles locally and to cooperate with core customers from development to the supply chain.

On December 19, the groundbreaking ceremony for LG Chem's cathode material factory was held in Tennessee, USA. The factory covers a total area of about 1.7 million square meters. In the first phase, LG Chem plans to invest about 2 trillion Korean won to build a cathode material project with an annual output of 60,000 tons. This annual production scale can be used for the cathode materials needed for the batteries of about 600,000 high-performance pure electric vehicles (with a range of 500 kilometers) produced each year. It is expected to become the largest cathode material factory in the United States. The factory is expected to officially start mass production of NCMA (Nickel Cobalt Manganese Aluminum) cathode materials in 2026.
