According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China built 4.738 million kilometers of new optical cable lines in 2023, bringing the total length of optical cable lines in the country to 64.32 million kilometers.

The construction of optical cable lines is crucial to the breadth and quality of network coverage and serves as an important network infrastructure. China's all-optical network construction has been rapidly advancing. By the end of 2023, the number of internet broadband access ports reached 1.136 billion, a net increase of 64.86 million from the end of the previous year. The proportion of administrative villages nationwide with 5G coverage exceeded 80%.

An official from the MIIT said that while continuously promoting the construction of digital infrastructure and achieving deep coverage of mobile networks in key areas, the ministry will also study and formulate policies for the continuous development of 5G applications. It will focus on application scenarios in key industries, strengthen promotion and application, expand the coverage of industrial perception networks, and comprehensively improve the digitization level of the manufacturing industry.
