Global telecommunications infrastructure leader American Tower has announced the completion of its fiber backbone that connects São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, Bahia, and the Federal District using Infinera's GX Series ICE6 800G solution.

This project extends American Tower's fiber network to over 30,000 kilometers, solidifying its position as the primary provider of high-capacity, low-latency infrastructure for network operators, internet providers, data centers, and 5G suppliers in the region. Infinera's solution enables American Tower to offer ultra-high-speed connectivity services between major states in Brazil, starting with an initial capacity of 800G. It delivers exceptional optical performance, greater reach, lower cost, and power per bit, along with the highest spectral efficiency.

Rodrigo Boccasius, Director of Engineering and Fiber Technology at American Tower Brazil, stated: "We have one of the most robust backbones in Brazil, and our collaboration with Infinera is crucial for reinforcing our commitment to providing high-quality telecommunications infrastructure and for promoting connectivity expansion into new markets. The flexibility and performance of the Infinera ICE6 platform allow us to continually and rapidly upgrade our network with the latest 800G technology to meet the growing traffic demands, and we have already benefited from offering high-speed services in new markets."

Nick Walden, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Infinera, commented: "American Tower's national backbone network provides critical infrastructure for service providers and end-users across the country. Infinera is proud to supply the network with the latest generation of transmission technology. Upgrading the network with Infinera's industry-leading ICE6 solution enables American Tower to quickly and seamlessly meet the needs of its customers."
