During the 2024 MWC Shanghai, the F5G-A Full Optical Gigabit Industry Summit was successfully held with the theme "Full Optical Gigabit, Quality Transport, Building an Intelligent World Together." The China Communications Standards Association, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Chile's Entel, UAE's e&, and Huawei jointly discussed the development of the F5G-A industry. They shared innovative practices in full optical gigabit and high-quality transport both domestically and internationally, accelerating the commercial construction of F5G-A and supporting the swift arrival of an intelligent world.

In November 2023, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) released the F5G-A standard. Innovative technologies such as 50G PON, Wi-Fi 7, FTTR+X, 400G, full optical cross, and Hybrid ASON rapidly matured, marking the official commercialization of F5G-A. Wen Ku, Chairman of the China Communications Standards Association, stated in his opening speech, "We are deeply advancing the construction of high-quality transport networks, strengthening computing through networks, and accelerating the building of high-speed, intelligent, and green urban full optical networks. This provides gigabit ultra-wide connectivity and a guaranteed deterministic experience for families and small and micro-enterprise users entering the cloud and computing."

Huawei's Senior Vice President and President of ICT Sales and Service, Li Peng, pointed out, "The optical industry is facing development opportunities in the intelligent era. F5G-A helps operators achieve three major leaps: surpassing the limits of experience by stimulating intelligent applications with gigabit optical networks; transcending connectivity boundaries with 'Connectivity+X' to support ubiquitous intelligent scenarios; and bridging time and space with integrated computing and networking to unleash powerful computing capabilities."

At the summit, Chen Banghua, President of Huawei's Optical Product Line, elaborated on the target network of F5G-A and key product solutions, sharing the successful practices of global operators in F5G-A. Chen highlighted, "Facing the intelligent era, operators need to build an F5G-A full optical gigabit+ high-quality transport network that supports ubiquitous 10Gbps access, 1ms ultra-low latency, and six nines of ultra-high reliability. This meets the intelligent application access needs of individuals, families, and enterprises, as well as the network requirements for interconnected computing power." From an architectural perspective, the network can be built around three aspects: First is the three-dimensional computing backbone network, where 400G ultra-high speed and 3D Mesh architecture achieve bandwidth without blocking, and Hybrid ASON achieves six nines of high-reliability connectivity. Second, is the one-hop computing urban network, where end-to-end OXC creates a 1-millisecond city latency circle, achieving low-latency computing access, with pooled wavelength division and urban 100G continuously reducing computing access costs. Third is the gigabit intelligent access network, where 50G PON supports gigabit access in all scenarios, ensuring a deterministic experience through end-to-end slicing and intelligent traffic diversion.

Currently, based on the "F5G-A Full Optical Gigabit+ High-Quality Transport" products and solutions, Huawei has carried out commercial innovative practices with global operators and deployed 166 commercial sites, with the rapid development of new businesses promoting new revenue growth for operators.

Finally, participants at the event called for industry-wide cooperation in innovative applications and experience upgrades to build a solid network foundation, continuously enrich the business scenarios of F5G-A, accelerate the commercial process of F5G-A, and win new opportunities in the intelligent era together.

The 2024 MWC Shanghai was held from June 26 to June 28 in Shanghai, China. Huawei's exhibition area was located in the N1 Hall E10 and E50 zones of the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC). The year 2024 marks the commercial debut of 5G-A; with the gigabit optical network as a symbol, F5G-A has set sail. The collaborative development of "network, cloud, and intelligence" is inspiring richer digital experiences and more ubiquitous intelligent applications. Huawei, together with global operators, industry elites, and opinion leaders, delved into how to move from the prosperous 5G era to an even more prosperous 5G-A era, expanding new spaces for operator revenue growth and accelerating the journey towards an intelligent world.
